Hollywood has been out of original ideas for quite some time.
It’s true; there are a few spurts of original content sprinkled here and there throughout the movie business. This year’s journalism drama Spotlight, for instance, was a heartbreaking and insightful look at the world of sexual assault victims and their struggle to cope with their situations. Inside Out was an entertaining and colorful animated masterpiece that doubled as an analysis on the human psyche. And Concussion was a sports drama that criticized sports itself, critically observing the NFL’s policies and disregards for their players’ well-being.
