Column: A legend lost; a legacy unforgotten

The basketball world lost a legend on June 28, when news broke that former University of Tennessee head women’s basketball coach Pat Summitt died at 64 years old.

She broke the gender barrier in sports with her fiery attitude and will to win, something that sometimes goes under-appreciated but should be recognized.

Summitt left behind a winning legacy: She coached the Volunteers for 38 seasons and amassed 1,098 career wins — the most in college basketball history — and eight NCAA titles.

I don’t care who you are or what job you have, but if you last 38 years somewhere you must be doing something right, especially as a college basketball coach.
