When junior guard Christina Devers joined the Lady Mavericks, she brought an additional team member with her.
Devers’s optimistic basketball future was unexpectedly stalled when she learned she was having a son. She thought the door had been closed, but head coach Krista Gerlich’s support made way for a small crack, heavily influencing her decision to become a Lady Maverick.
“Honestly I wasn’t expecting anybody to take me after that,” Devers said. “Coach Gerlich and, you know, the coaching staff had just been, like, just so open arms and just so understanding.”
She is only in her third week as a Lady Maverick, but she has proven why she dons the number 23.
