After an eventful nonconference slate, the men’s and women’s basketball teams opened up Sun Belt Conference play Thursday against Georgia State University.
The men’s team (4-10, 0-1) returned home to host the Panthers at College Park Center while the women’s team (8-4, 0-1) battled it out at the GSU Sports Arena in Atlanta.
For the Lady Mavericks, Thursday’s matchup had high stakes. The team entered the game on a five-game road winning streak, stemming from a historic nonconference showing that saw the team secure a program-high eight wins.
Despite outscoring Georgia State in the entire second half, it was the second quarter that set the two teams apart, ultimately leading the Panthers to victory.
