9-run first inning carries baseball team past Islanders

A nine-run first inning explosion sealed the win for Mavericks on Sunday at Clay Gould Ballpark.

The UTA Mavericks baseball team (8-5) beat Texas A&M – Corpus Christi Islanders (5-7) 10-4 behind hot bats and solid pitching.

The Mavs forced the Islanders to dip into their bullpen early as they used three different pitchers in the first inning alone with one pitching change coming before the Mavs first out of the game.

Sophomore designated hitter Christian Hollie led the Mavs with a 3-for-5, four-RBI performance at the plate. Junior leftfielder Quintin Rohrbaugh kept his hitting streak alive at 11 games going 3-for-5 with 1 RBI.
