USC star wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster will probably undergo hand surgery that could sideline him a few days or a few weeks, interim coach Clay Helton said Sunday night.
Smith-Schuster fractured his hand during the Trojans’ 27-21 victory over California and doctors will meet with him today to discuss a possible procedure to secure a bone in his right hand. Helton said the quickest recovery would be three days but said it could also take weeks.
“I would be totally guessing,” Helton said when asked how long he expected Smith-Schuster to miss.
The layoff time is critical because USC plays Arizona (5-4) and Colorado (4-5) its next two games but finishes the regular season with more highly regarded Oregon (5-3) and UCLA (6-2).
