USC linebacker Oluwole Betiku catching up with some focus on details

LOS ANGELES — USC linebackers coach Johnny Nansen calls it “Football 101.”

Throughout the week, players meet him at the John McKay Center for a little review. Sometimes they drop in between classes or during the evenings. Nansen typically presents film cut-ups of offensive formations. The linebackers must identify them quickly.

“The more they’re comfortable, you can tell,” Nansen said. “They’re yelling out exactly what the backfield is, what formation, all the motions.”

One student, it seems, has benefited in particular: sophomore outside linebacker Oluwole Betiku.

At a spring practice Thursday at the Coliseum, Betiku was credited with sacks on consecutive plays.
