USC football: Studs and duds from season-opening win over Fresno State

The USC football team kicked off the 2019 season with a narrow win over Fresno State Saturday night in Los Angeles. The Trojans jumped out to an impressive 14-0 lead early in the first quarter, seemingly vindicating a number of coaching and personnel moves that were made over the summer.

Unfortunately, that 14-point lead signaled the beginning of a familiar dirge that swept across the Coliseum. Everything fell apart. Multiple drops by normally reliable receivers, a couple of turnovers and a potentially catastrophic injury to sophomore quarterback JT Daniels left USC hanging on for dear life late into the fourth quarter.
