Chris Steele cleared by NCAA to play for USC Football in 2019

USC football’s big transfer coup of the offseason —highly acclaimed true freshman cornerback Chris Steele— is officially eligible to play football for the Trojans in 2019.

“Chris Steele was approved for his waiver,” head coach Clay Helton said Tuesday afternoon, following the fourth day of fall camp. “He will be eligible this fall. The other two waivers are still in process.”

Bru McCoy, a five-star receiver who transferred to and from Texas during the spring semester, still awaits his ruling.

Needless to say, Steele’s immediate eligibility is an enormous development for the Trojans. They must replace five graduated defensive backs who had starting experience from a year ago, including 27 of the 31 combined starts made by a cornerback last season.
