The Rebels prevailed as Mountain West Champions following a dominating performance in the conference season finale. The victory resulted from a strike that proved to be too far, gazing past the white inbounds line featured on court 1 at the Aztec Tennis Center located in San Diego.
Senior and team anchor Aiwen Zhu (ranked #104 nationally) crouched as San Diego States’ own Shakhnoza Khatamova sailed a strike past the line of play. What followed were screams of relieving joy, as Zhu’s teammates came running over to her and hugging their captain following a superior season.
The Rebels wrapped up their mighty season, and even more dominant tournament performance, with a win over the third-placed San Diego Aztecs on Saturday, capturing the title as champions of the Mountain West.
