UNLV football cough away 15-point lead twice, lose Hawai’i

Even with starting quarterback Armani Rogers returning and holding a 21-6 lead at halftime, the UNLV Rebels collapsed on the road losing to Hawai’i, 35-28, Saturday, Nov. 17.

The loss snaps a three-game win streak for UNLV against the Rainbow Warriors. The win sent the “Ninth Island Showdown” trophy over to Hawaii.

The game did mark the return of Rogers who had been cleared to play the last two games. However, sophomore quarterback Max Gilliam started the game.

Head coach Tony Sanchez chose to run the offense with both quarterbacks essentially playing tag during the course of the game.
