UNLV basketball meets APR, hopes departures don’t affect future scores

UNLV posted a 958 Academic Progress Rate for its men’s basketball team, a number well above the required 930 for postseason eligibility, the NCAA announced Wednesday.

It was the expected number, but the real question is what happens when the exodus of players from this season’s team begins to affect the APR. Part of new coach Marvin Menzies’ hope is to help keep players from leaving, and Jaylen Poyser and Dwayne Morgan could stay with the program, which would mitigate any damage.

There are other exceptions to players who transfer or declare early for the NBA Draft that wouldn’t cost UNLV APR points.
