Although society does not always fully recognize it, there have been several successful athletes from the LGBTQ community in every major sport. From the WNBA and NBA, to Tennis, to Boxing and MMA, the LGBTQ community have represented themselves in the sporting world.
There are, and were, perhaps several notable athletes that the public will never know are LGBTQ+. For decades, the culture of sports followed what was traditionally considered masculine values.
It was and is a culture that has helped turn sports into the multi-billion dollar societal force it is today. However, it brought along with it a completely unwarranted, undeserved and cruel stigma attached to the LGBTQ+ community.
