2 UNLV women’s basketball players given 1-game suspension for on-court brawl

Two UNLV women’s basketball players have been suspended for one game following an on-court brawl during last weekend’s home game against Utah State, the Mountain West Conference announced Tuesday.

Junior center Katie Powell and sophomore center Paris Strawther were both given one-game suspensions for their involvement per NCAA rules.

“I would like to sincerely and deeply apologize for the actions of our team on Saturday afternoon,” said UNLV women’s basketball head coach Kathy Olivier. “In our program we take a great deal of pride in representing UNLV in a positive manner. The altercation on Saturday does not represent who the Lady Rebels are - we are a passionate and very competitive team.
