The journey began on June 15th and now the final of the 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup is here. As most predicted, it’s United States and Mexico meeting at Soldier Field in Chicago, Illinois. The two favorites reached the championship, despite a few nervy moments along the way. Mexico couldn’t get the job done in regulation for either knockout round match, looking much weaker than in previous years. The USMNT had an uninspiring 1-0 quarterfinal win over Curaçao and a slightly more emphatic 3-1 semifinal victory against Jamaica.
After being largely absent from lineups earlier in the tournament, Jozy Altidore made a surprise start at striker in the semifinal over Gyasi Zardes.
