U.S. vs. France: France Scouting Report

The United States Men’s National team heads to Lyon to take on one of the 2018 World Cup favorites in France.

France is 3-1-1 in its last five matches including victories against Ireland and Italy in pre-World Cup friendlies. Les Bleus is 3-0 all-time against the USMNT.

This team has an embarrassment of riches with the roster headlined by superstars such as Kylian Mbappe, Antoine Greizmann, and Raphael Varane.

Roster:

Goalkeeper: Alphonse Areola (PSG), Hugo Lloris (Tottenham), Steve Mandanda (Marseille)

Defenders: Lucas Hernandez (Atletico Madrid), Presnel Kimpembe (PSG), Benjamin Mendy (Manchester City), Benjamin Pavard (Stuttgart), Adil Rami (Marseille), Djibril Sidibe (Monaco), Samuel Umtiti (Barcelona), Raphael Varane (Real Madrid)

Forwards: Ousmane Dembele (Barcelona), Nabil Fekir (Lyon), Olivier Giroud (Chelsea), Antoine Griezmann (Atletico Madrid), Thomas Lemar (Monaco), Kylian Mbappe (PSG), Florian Thauvin (Marseille)

It’s hard to predict whether Didier Deschamps will deploy a first choice Starting XI, but with the team’s opening World Cup match a week later I believe he’ll want his best eleven to play together.
