With the launch of Louisville FC this year and Angel City set to join in 2022, NWSL is growing into new markets. That trend will continue and after not having any teams in California, the league will have a second one joining in 2022. San Diego was announced yesterday as the 12th team in the league.
While Angel City has a star studded ownership group, the San Diego franchise will have its own notable name as Jill Ellis has signed on to be the club’s President. The team is owned by investor Ron Burkle who also co-owns the Pittsburgh Penguins.
