With jury trials set to resume after COVID closures, Supreme Court denies speedy trial request from accused triple murderer

The state Supreme Court will not hear an accused murderer’s request for a ruling on whether pandemic court closures that repeatedly postponed his trial amount to a violation of his right, and the rights of others in custody, to speedy trials.

Chief Justice Richard A. Robinson denied the request, without explanation, in a one sentence order Monday. The denial came six days after the request from Sergio Correa and one day after the administrative head of the state Judicial Branch announced that jury trials in criminal cases will resume June 1 after a hiatus of almost 15 months.
