SOUTHINGTON — A 26-year-old man was charged Friday with second-degree manslaughter, first-degree reckless endangerment, reckless driving and driving under the influence after colliding into two utility poles in late February.

Robert Perkins, 26, of Windsor, and a passenger, were traveling south on Queen Street in Southington on February 25. Investigators said Perkins was driving 100 mph in a 40 mph zone when he “swerved off the right side of the roadway striking a curb at the intersection of Queen Street and West Queen Street,” upon approaching another vehicle.

“Perkins continued and struck a utility pole, a mailbox, then grazed a traffic lane marker sign and a second utility pole before coming to final rest in the southbound lane of Queen Street,” police said.
