Wind knocks out power overnight in eastern Connecticut

Strong wind gusts overnight pushed trees onto power lines, triggering 25,000 power outages, in the state, most in eastern Connecticut.

Eversource reported 22,893 outages at 6:30 a.m., with 2,084 customers in Marlborough -- 78% of the town – lacking power. In Union, 155, or 34% of customers have no electricity, and in Tolland, 1,749 or 28%, lack power.

Fairfield was the hardest-hit town in United Illuminating’s shoreline communities, with 1,022 customers, or 4.2%, without power. In all, UI reported 2,267 without electricity.

The heavy rain that accompanied the winds wreaked havoc on the state’s highways, with rollovers being reported before dawn.
