Wind knocks down trees, wires; more than 17,000 in Connecticut lack power

More than 17,000 across Connecticut had no power about 6 a.m. Fallen wires forced police to close more than a dozen roads, including streets in Windsor, Wethersfield, Farmington, Burlington and Southington, according to the state Department of Transportation.

Many of the towns that lost electricity are in eastern Connecticut. Pomfret had 634 customers, or 32% of town, without power shortly after 6 a.m., Eversource said. Andover had a quarter of its customers in the dark, and 22% of Chaplin had no power.

In all, Eversource, the biggest power provider in the state, reported 17,331 customers without power shortly after 6:10 a.
