West Hartford police partner with Interval House to curb domestic violence abuse

Victims of domestic violence in West Hartford will soon have a new connection to support services: Interval House next month is assigning a counselor to work directly with the town’s police force.

The arrangement will be similar to what Hartford, East Hartford and Manchester police already have, and officials believe it will reduce the number of ongoing domestic violence cases that escalate to severe assaults or worse.

“I’m thrilled. This provides a holistic approach — our goal is always prevention,” Police Chief Vernon Riddick said. “This will help make sure services are in place. And sometimes people are reticent to speak with a police officer but are more willing to talk with a counselor or social worker.
