West Hartford man, 57, charged with operating under the influence after crashing into state police vehicle

A 57-year-old man from West Hartford was arrested and charged with operating under the influence in a construction zone and two additional charges after crashing into a state troopers vehicle Friday afternoon.

The state police trooper was traveling north on I-91 near exit 32a in Hartford “with its emergency lights activated in a construction pattern,” a news release said.

Richard Harris, of West Hartford, was driving behind the trooper when he then “drove into the construction pattern at which time it struck the drivers side,” of the police vehicle.

The accident was determined to be Harris’ fault and an investigation found that the 57-year-old was operating his vehicle under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol.
