Waterbury police officer shot during stolen vehicle investigation is in stable condition at Saint Mary’s Hospital, police say

A Waterbury police officer was shot and injured Tuesday afternoon during an investigation of a stolen vehicle.

The officer was in stable condition at 3:30 p.m. at Saint Mary’s Hospital, Lt. David Silverio said.

The incident occurred just over an hour earlier at 2:20 p.m. on Marley Place, a short residential street just off Wolcott Street east of downtown, police said.

State troopers and detectives responded to the scene and warned motorists to expect a heavy police presence around the area of Wolcott and East Main streets.

Police release no other details about the incident and it was not immediately clear whether a suspect or suspects were apprehended or at-large after the shooting.
