Warrant related to unsolved 1998 Farmington killing says woman provided false alibi for friend

An East Hartford woman repeatedly lied to investigators to protect a person of interest in a 1998 unsolved murder, an arrest warrant obtained Wednesday says.

Katherine Pires, 50, was arrested about two weeks ago on charges of hindering prosecution and interfering with an officer in connection with the fatal shooting of Agnieszka Ziemlewski.

Known to her friends as Agnes or Nikki, the 1989 graduate of Bulkeley High School was shot three times in the neck at close range as she walked on a trail at the MDC Reservoir near the West Hartford line. Police have long said they think Ziemlewski knew her killer.
