Uncle of 4-year-old boy whose disappearance triggered Amber Alert knowingly left boy with drug addict, police say; charged with risk of injury

The couple who police arrested in connection to the kidnapping and Amber Alert of 4-year-old Armel Muhammad from Middletown Tuesday night admitted to consuming cocaine and being under the influence of drugs while they had the child, new court documents show.

The 4-year-old was left in the care of his uncle, Mario Jenkins, on Saturday and on Tuesday was reported missing. Jenkins initially told police that his friend, Stephanie Fonda, had kidnapped the boy and stole his vehicle, but upon further investigation police found that Jenkins asked Fonda to babysit the boy and voluntarily allowed her to borrow his car.
