UConn will cut manager pay to deal with a budget deficit of more than $50 million, but faculty union balks at concessions

Faced with a staggering, budget deficit of more than $50 million next year, UConn President Thomas Katsouleas will cut most non-union managers pay by 5% through furloughs and cancel most of their merit raises to help close the budget gap.

Katsouleas also has asked the unions representing faculty and university staff for concessions to ease the shortfall. But at least one of those unions, which represents faculty, said its members have already made concessions in the past.

“As in the past, UConn-AAUP will work with you to find a solution to the University’s revenue shortfall; however, as we have stated, your ask is unreasonable and does not provide any incentive for our members to accept,” the union said in a post on Facebook.
