On Monday morning, UConn athletics made the difficult, but necessary decision to cancel all spring sports for the remainder of the semester due to the COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak.
This unfortunate news comes only a few days after the NCAA cancelled all remaining winter and spring championships, including the beloved March Madness basketball tournaments. With promising seasons expected for UConn baseball, softball, and other Huskies’ teams, this is an especially devastating turn of events for these programs.
UConn had originally suspended spring sports indefinitely. This decision finalizes their cancellation. Elsewhere in the sports world, all NCAA winter and spring championships were cancelled and NBA and NHL suspended operations.
