On Dec. 1, the United Soccer Coaches announced their all-region teams and UConn men’s soccer placed two on their lists after an 8-8-2 season.
Junior forward captain Abdou Mbacke Thiam was named to the All-East region Second Team following an impressive season. He scored 10 goals, hitting double digits for the third consecutive year. He scored almost half UConn’s 21 tallies and led the team.
He also paced the Huskies in assists, with four, and in shots (68). He was third in the American Athletic Conference in goals and tied for 37th nationally.
Mbacke Thiam was a player that opposing defenses keyed in on all year, but he was still able to make plays in the offensive third, accounting for two-thirds of UConn’s goals in 2017.
