In a matchup that has seen some of the AAC’s most competitive contests, the UConn Huskies’ woes continued in a loss to Cincinnati at Gampel Pavilion that was not nearly as close as the score might indicate.
UConn went nearly eight minutes without making a shot to start the game, with the home crowd finally sitting down with 12:14 left in the first half as Christian Vital made a layup for the Huskies’ first points. Cincinnati jumped out to a 13-0 lead sparked by three three-pointers and really never looked back.
Kevin Ollie’s squad fought valiantly, sort of, to close the half looking slightly better and showed signs of life in the second, but simply made too many mistakes and abandoned anything resembling offensive strategy for long stretches as they are wont to do.
