Two bodies pulled from the Housatonic River in New Milford

Police said they have recovered the bodies of two New York men who they believe drowned while swimming last week in the Housatonic River in New Milford.

Police received a 911 call about 4:50 p.m. June 10 from a caller who said two men went under water while swimming off the river’s east bank, near Route 7 in the Gaylordsville section of town. The men were with family members and friends.

More than a dozen teams of police officers, firefighters and other rescuers searched for the men, but couldn’t find them. They resumed the search Friday and again on Saturday.
