The case of Naomi Bell, the Plymouth, Connecticut, mother accused of shooting her daughter to death at their home and critically wounding her son, has put pandemic-related mental health issues in the spotlight.
Bell had been hospitalized twice this year for psychiatric crises, and her husband, Owen, said in court documents that her mental health worsened as the pandemic — and its restrictions — dragged on.
“At the beginning of the COVID pandemic, (she) became extremely depressed and was having delusional thoughts. She was on medication for depression and psychotic episodes,” he told investigators after the shooting.
