These 21 Hartford graduates never gave up on education. Now they have their high school diplomas and plans for the future.

When the outdoor ceremony to honor the 21 graduates of Hartford’s adult education program was moved inside the cafeteria at the Global Communications Academy one recent evening, it was an apt metaphor that sometimes things don’t work out according to plan.

A little rain wasn’t going to stop these perseverant students who were about to collect their high school diplomas after years of overcoming the odds.

Each graduate had their own story. For one, it was a six-year process of dropping out of the Adult Education Center program and coming back in hopes of getting her high school diploma to inspire her children.
