The COVID-19 vaccine will be available to adolescents Thursday. Here’s what you need to know.

Across the country and Connecticut, COVID-19 vaccinations for adolescents will begin Thursday, offering another chance to expand immunization in the fight against the coronavirus.

Connecticut vaccine providers are preparing clinics to begin inoculations Thursday morning. Yale New Haven Health has begun accepting appointments, while Hartford HealthCare says its sites will be open appointment-free.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Monday authorized the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for use in 12- to 15-year-olds, and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Wednesday evening to signed off on the vaccine usage in that age group.

The expanded eligibility marks a win for Connecticut, just as vaccinations have slowed among the already eligible groups.
