Stratford councilman charged with DUI, speeding after being clocked at 117 mph on Merritt Parkway

A member of the Stratford town council was charged with drunken driving over the weekend after, state police said, a trooper clocked him doing 117 mph on the Merritt Parkway.

William Perillo, 51, was charged with reckless driving, disobeying the signal of an officer, illegal operation of a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs and failure to drive in the proper lane, state police said. He was released on a promise to appear in Superior Court in Bridgeport on Sept. 22.

According to the state police, at about 10:10 p.m. Saturday, the trooper clocked Perillo driving 117 mph on the Merritt, or Route 15 — where the speed limit is 55 mph.
