An Ashford man tried to tangle with a state police dog that had tracked him down after he fled from troopers, police said.

Joseph McCormack, 29, faces charges that include criminal attempt to intentionally injure a police canine and interfering with police.

Troopers were called on Saturday at about 7 p.m. to 90 Orcutville Road in Stafford on a complaint that McCormack had taken a vehicle without permission, police said Monday. The woman who complained called back and said McCormack was at her home, police said.

When police arrived, he fled on foot and a trooper and K9 Drago gave chase, tracking the suspect for about 1 1/2 miles, police said.
