State police: Drunken, wrong-way driver arrested after head-on collision with trooper

A woman who state police said was driving drunk on I-84 in Waterbury Thursday night was arrested after she collided head-on with a trooper.

The trooper was treated at an area hospital for minor injuries and released, police said. Sara Deleon, 33, of Cheryl Lane in Prospect was charged with operating while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, driving the wrong way and reckless driving.

Shortly before 11 p.m., state police received a report of a wrong-way driver in the east lanes of the highway near Exit 23, they said. Troopers spotted the black Acura MDX heading west, but when they tried to stop it, the Acura and a police car collided head-on.
