State grant brings Beeline Trail closer to linking central Connecticut towns by bike trails

A new $600,000 state grant will help New Britain build the Beeline Trail bike path that will ultimately connect its downtown CTfastrak hub to the Farmington Canal Heritage Trail, the longest bike trail in Connecticut.

“This means we have funding for two of three sections in New Britain. I think we’re going to be able to do 95% of it off road,” said Mark Moriarty, New Britain’s public works director and a key advocate for bikeways in central Connecticut.

When it’s completed in several years, the nearly 5-mile Beeline Trail will run from the center of New Britain to the center of Plainville.
