Stamford State Senator resigns days before new session to begin

State Sen. Carlo Leone of Stamford has resigned his seat just days before the new legislative session is set to begin.

In a short, one-page letter sent Saturday to Secretary of State Denise Merrill, Leone doesn’t indicate why he is suddenly resigning. Leone has been a state senator since 2011 and was the Deputy President Pro Tempore as well as Chair of the Transportation Committee the past two years.

“It has been a great honor to serve as the Senator for the 27th District and as a member of the Connecticut Senate and I will forever cherish my time there,” Leone wrote.
