Stamford march against police brutality turns violent

Related Topics: Stamford, Tim Shaw

Stamford police are reviewing officers’ body camera footage of a weekend police brutality protest that turned violent, injuring police and protesters.

Six people were arrested, Chief Tim Shaw said. Nine officers – one who will need surgery -- were treated at Stamford Hospital.

Different groups of activists participated in the march, some from a group that said it is fighting for justice for Steven Barrier, a Stamford man who died while in police custody last year. Barrier became unconscious while sitting in the back of a city police car after a foot chase Oct. 23; an investigation showed he died of heart disease.
