The 22-year-old behind the wheel of a speeding Maserati that crashed into a tree and caught fire two weeks ago has died, Stamford police reported.

Diego Ubillus, who was severely burned in the wreck, had been treated briefly at Stamford Hospital before being transferred to Bridgeport Hospital’s burn unit for long-term treatment. He died there on Monday, police reported Tuesday.

Ubillus, a city resident and promising young real estate agent, was driving with two other men around 8:10 p.m. when he apparently lost control of the 2016 Maserati on Westhill Road, police said.

The car was traveling at “a very high rate of speed,” investigators said, when it crossed onto the wrong side of the road, then barreled over past of several front yards and hit several mailboxes.
