Southington man charged with possession of child pornography

A Southington man was charged with receipt and possession of child pornography Friday after Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) searched his residence and found child pornography on his computer months ago.

In October 2020, HSI found a “computer was running and connected to a website dedicated to child pornography,” in Richard E. Smith’s home, investigators said.

Upon further searching, “one of Smith’s four computer monitors displayed a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet containing numerous child pornography filenames and internet hyperlinks,” they added. The 65-year-old’s electronic devices “revealed millions of images and videos depicting the sexual abuse of children.”
