Shot in the head, man drives self to hospital in New Haven, police say

A man drove himself to the hospital after being shot in the head Thursday night in New Haven, police said.

The shooting happened about 8:20 p.m. on Winthrop Avenue, between Parmelee and Judson avenues, they said. When officers arrived, they found no victim but evidence of gunfire in the street.

A short time later, the wounded 27-year-old arrived at Yale-New Haven Hospital’s Saint Raphael’s Campus at 1450 Chapel St. His gunshot wound, which police described as non-life-threatening, was on the side of his head.

Police learned that the man had been sitting in his parked car when he was shot.
