A Shelton man was badly hurt when he lost control of his car on Route 8 Saturday afternoon, state police said.

Shortly after 3 p.m., Brian Vincent, 52, was southbound in Seymour about one mile south of Exit 22 when he veered right off the highway and struck a metal fence and utility pole, state police said.

The 2008 Volkswagen Jetta rolled and came to rest on its roof on Cedar Street. Vincent was taken by ambulance to Bridgeport Hospital.
