Security camera video shows police shooting that injured Waterbury officer in December

Newly released video footage shows the moment a Waterbury police officer was shot, apparently by another officer, as two SUVs plowed through several vehicles where police were arresting a man wanted for an armed kidnapping early last month.

The video released Friday by Litchfield State’s Attorney Dawn Gallo offers the first visual account of how one officer was caught in the crossfire of another during the chaotic turn of events on Dec. 8 since none of the officers or police cars at the scene were equipped with their own body-worn or dashboard cameras.

Officer Charles Mauriello was struck in the chest by the shot — saved only by his bulletproof vest — fired by fellow Officer Garrett Pagel, police have said.
