Saturday storm: Rain changing to snow; up to 8 inches for northeastern Connecticut

The first widespread significant snow event of the season is forecast for New England this weekend, with parts of Connecticut expecting up to 8 inches of snow.

The National Weather Service predicts the highest snowfall in Tolland and Windham Counties, which are under a winter storm warning until 7 a.m. Sunday, said Bill Leatham, a NWS meteorologist. Snowfall totals are expected to be 4 to 8 inches, with rain changing to snow around noon to 1 p.m. Snow could be heavy at times during the afternoon, he said.
