WEST HARTFORD — Linda Franco has lived on Fox Meadow Lane for 30 years and said she never saw a rat in the neighborhood until this spring.

Then she saw lots of rats, scurrying, crowding in her neighbor’s yard to feast on a dead animal, pocking her yard with burrow holes. Franco said she stepped on a rat near her back door and took to banging on a pot whenever she went outside.

The West Hartford/Bloomfield Health District and other town officials have responded to a rat problem in the neighborhood bordered by Asylum Avenue, Trout Brook Drive and North Main Street, health district Director Aimee Krauss said Thursday.
