Racist incidents prompt protest in Bloomfield Saturday

About 100 people gathered on the Bloomfield Town Hall green Saturday morning to protest racist violence against black people across the country and in the town.

The rally, organized by Cornell Lewis and the Self-Defense Brigade, was in response to an incident this week in which a white man pulled a gun on a black man who had pulled over to the side of the road to take a cellphone call.

“I’ve talked to the mayor. I’ve talked to other people. They want me to do it a certain way. But we’re going to do it our way," Lewis said.
