Racial disparities in Connecticut’s COVID-19 vaccination rollout are supposed to be narrowing. They’re not.

At the beginning of March, Gov. Ned Lamont implemented an equity target meant to help close the vaccination gap between Connecticut’s white residents and its residents of color.

But even as vaccine providers inch closer to that target, the state’s vaccination disparities have not just remained, but grown.

“We’re not correcting the existing gaps,” said Tekisha Dwan Everette, the executive director of Health Equity Solutions.

The vaccination disparities are compounded by the disproportionate impact COVID-19 has had on communities of color. Nationwide and in Connecticut, Black and Hispanic residents are significantly more likely to contract and die of COVID-19 than are white residents.
