Police: Monroe mother intentionally crashed car into Housatonic River last summer to kill herself, adult son

Investigators concluded this week that a Monroe mother intentionally crashed her car into the Housatonic River last summer to kill herself and her adult son, even refusing help from a boater who witnessed the crash and came to their aid.

Connie Crowell, 54, and her son Jack, 22, both drowned when their car sank in the water on July 31 off Route 34 along the river in Seymour.

Almost seven months after the crash, police announced this week that they have ruled the incident a murder-suicide after a “lengthy investigation” into the circumstances of the incident and what happened once the car went into the water, Deputy Chief Robert Rinaldi said.
